Perennial to 70 cm. It likes very well drained, fairly rich soil in a warm sunny sheltered spot but will grow well in poor soil. Flavour is regarded as inferior to French Tarragon due to lack of anise like taste. This does improve as the plant ages.

Leaves are used as seasoning. It relieves digestive problems,catarrhal difficulties and when chewed relieves toothache. As a tea it helps overcome insomnia and stimulates the appetite.
